Volunteer as an Angel Flight of BC Pilot

We’re glad you’re here.

If you’re an experienced pilot looking for a meaningful way to give back, we’d love to hear from you.

Angel Flight pilots generously donate their time, skills, and aircraft to help people reach essential medical care and services. It’s a rewarding way to use your flying experience to make a real difference in someone’s life.

Pilot Experience Requirements

To ensure the safety and reliability of every flight, we ask that volunteer pilots meet the following criteria:

  • A minimum of 300 hours Pilot-in-Command (PIC) time, accumulated consistently (not spread over many years)
  • This is a volunteer role—not a time-building opportunity for airline or commercial careers (With approximately 120 flights per year and nearly 30 pilots, each pilot typically flies about four missions annually.)

Aircraft Requirements

Pilots must have access to a suitable aircraft that meets our operational standards:
  • A series-production aircraft (no kit or experimental aircraft)
  • Minimum of four seats
  • Manufactured by a recognized aircraft manufacturer
  • If you own the aircraft:
    • Minimum $2,000,000 liability insurance
    • Current and complete maintenance records
  • If you rent the aircraft:
    • It must be from an approved flying club or organization

Fuel Reimbursement

Fuel costs are reimbursed based on an approved rate, updated regularly. Once your Flight Report is submitted, reimbursement is sent via e-transfer within 24 hours.

Time Commitment

Your availability is entirely up to you. You may volunteer for as many or as few flights as you choose. Flights are assigned as fairly as possible, while also keeping overall program costs in mind.

The Application Process

Becoming an Angel Flight pilot is straightforward and supportive:
  1. Submit an application through our website
  2. We’ll review it to ensure all criteria are met
  3. Selected applicants are invited for a friendly, informal interview with Jeff and our Chief Pilot, Ted
  4. You’ll then complete a Familiarization Flight with Ted
  5. Once approved, you’ll begin receiving flight notifications and can start volunteering right away
