Who is Angel Flight?

Angel Flight of British Columbia is a charitable, non-profit organization that serves people with medical issues. We coordinate a network of pilots and other volunteers to transport patients via private aircraft from points on Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland to treatment centres in Victoria and Vancouver. Our passengers are patients who have to travel long distances for diagnosis, surgery, chemotherapy, dialysis, or other treatments not locally available. Patients have to able to get into and out of a small aircraft unaided. Often, their medical condition makes it uncomfortable or impossible for them to travel by other means due to fears of contagion from other passengers.

Angel Flight will also carry a travelling companion, or guardian, such as a nurse, parent or spouse.

Angel Flight is staffed entirely by volunteers. We raise funds through corporate and private donations, as well as fund-raising events. We also solicit support from other fund-raising organizations such as Kiwanis, Knights of Columbus and Rotary..

The first Canadian Angel Flight Society (Angel Flight British Columbia Society) was modelled to some degree on Angel Flight, Inc. which exists in the United States.

Angel Flight British Columbia Society was created by a group of people who believe in the benefit of volunteering and strive to keep all aspects of the organization on a volunteer basis. Our Pilots help people by offering their airplanes and time to help through tough times. Volunteers continually recruit pilots with airplanes as well as other volunteers to help throughout the organization. It is also necessary to make medical facilities, health organizations, hospitals, and the general public aware of our capabilities.
